This week Mesa County Sheriff’s Office investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Tyler Sims, 29, of Grand Junction for sex crimes on a child.
Sims is facing the following charges:
- • Sexual Assault on a Child F4
- • Three counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor F4
- • Three counts of Unlawful Distribution of a Schedule II to a Minor DF1
- • Three counts of Child Abuse M2
The charges stem from alleged incidents that occurred between April 1, 2021, and July 25, 2021, involving one juvenile.
Sims also has additional unrelated outstanding warrants.
Thursday afternoon Mesa County Sheriff’s Office deputies located him at a residence on the 400 block of Santee Street in Grand Junction.
Sims barricaded inside of the home and refused to come out. A Community Notification to shelter in place was sent out to surrounding homes as a precaution. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office and Grand Junction Police Department combined SWAT team, as well as deputies trained in crisis intervention and negotiation, were called in to assist.
Ultimately, Sims surrendered and was taken into custody. He was transported to the hospital as a precaution before being booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility.
Additional charges from Thursday's incident are pending further investigation.
