On July 17, 2022, Mesa County Sheriff's Deputies stopped a vehicle at Mile Post 8, on I-70 for a traffic violation. During the stop, approximately 6 pounds of methamphetamine and several hundred small blue pills consistent with fentanyl were found. After the drugs were found, Amaury Rivas-Barrera, age 22, and Yair Pistener-Anticona, age 40, were arrested for Possession with Intent to Distribute of more than 112 grams of methamphetamine, Drug Felony 1 charge, and Special Offender for transporting more than 7 grams of methamphetamines into the state of Colorado, a Drug Felony 1 charge.
