Business Alert: Counterfeit Money
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating several reports of individuals paying or attempting to pay for purchases and food delivery with fraudulent dollar bills in our community.
Businesses and food delivery drivers are advised to check money thoroughly before accepting payment. The bills we are seeing have very specific markings that indicate they are counterfeit.
Spotting Counterfeit Money
The fraudulent bills may have one or more of the following:
• Foreign language markings in Pink
• Writing that says “For Motion Picture Use Only”
• Writing that says “Copy”
• The feel of the money is wrong, not the same as a real bill.
If someone tries to give you a suspicious bill, refuse it and call 911.
