The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office will not renew its contract with Flock Safety when the current agreement expires on December 31, 2026. Effective immediately, Sheriff’s Office deputies will no longer access or utilize the Flock camera system.

Flock cameras have provided a useful investigative tool for law enforcement, and I recognize the value they can provide in certain investigations. However, any technology we use must be weighed against its cost, actual use, and how information collected in our community is stored, shared, and controlled.

After reviewing those factors, I do not believe continuing the contract is the right decision for Moffat County.

I have also heard the questions and concerns raised by members of our community. Those concerns deserve to be considered alongside the needs of law enforcement. Ultimately, my responsibility is to make decisions that balance public safety, fiscal responsibility, individual rights, and the trust of the people we serve.

We will continue to use the investigative tools available to us while remaining accountable to the community we serve.
