Early Morning Structure Fire at Remington Village Apartments

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Moffat County Sheriff's Office and Craig Police Department

Sheriff’s Office and Police Department Statement on Remington Village Apartment Fire

First and foremost, the Moffat County Sheriff's Office and Craig Police Department extend our heartfelt condolences to all those affected by the tragic fire at Remington Village Apartments this morning. We mourn alongside our community during this difficult time, and our thoughts remain with those who have lost their homes, belongings, and sense of security. We are committed to doing everything within our power to support our Moffat County and Craig families as they begin to recover.

At approximately 5:45 a.m. on May 31, 2025, the Colorado Regional Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at Remington Village Apartments, located at 1125 W. 6th Street in Craig, Colorado. Officers from the Craig Police Department were the first to arrive and immediately began evacuating residents from Building 4, followed by evacuations of additional buildings within the complex to ensure everyone’s safety.

Shortly thereafter, the Craig Fire Department arrived and began fire suppression efforts. They were joined by multiple partner agencies, including the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office, Memorial Regional Health Ambulance Service, and the West Routt Fire District. The coordinated response between these agencies played a crucial role in containing the fire and preventing further harm.

Thanks to the efforts of first responders, surrounding buildings were safely evacuated. Firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control by approximately 8:15 a.m., with Craig Fire crews remaining on-site to address hot spots and continue cleanup efforts. At 11:38 a.m., Craig Fire confirmed the fire was fully extinguished. Personnel will remain at the scene as the investigation into the cause of the fire continues. We urge the public to avoid Building 4 until it has been deemed safe by investigators.

At least one individual was evaluated for smoke inhalation. Thankfully, no serious injuries or fatalities have been reported at this time.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the agencies and personnel who responded swiftly and selflessly: Craig Fire Department, West Routt Fire District, Memorial Regional Health Ambulance Service, Colorado State Patrol Communications Centers, and our own Moffat County and Craig deputies and officers. Your bravery, training, and teamwork were vital in ensuring a safe and effective response.

We are also immensely proud of our community. The outpouring of kindness and generosity today has been both humbling and inspiring. Many individuals and organizations stepped forward to support both responders and those displaced by the fire. We would like to specifically acknowledge the Red Cross and Open Heart Advocates for their rapid response in providing immediate assistance. As well as Craig Budget Center, Love Inc. for beginning to help affected families. Craig Walmart, Christian Motorcycle Association, and countless others who brought food, beverages, and supplies to the scene.

A special thank you to the Boys & Girls Club of Craig for opening their doors and offering shelter and comfort when it was needed most. These acts of kindness are a powerful reminder of the strength and unity of our community.

We will continue to share updates as they become available and remain committed to standing with those affected in the days and weeks ahead.
