Additional Update: Karina Carbajal and Isaiah Tate are both facing charges related to this incident. Click each name to view more information.

4:30 p.m. Update: The female being sought has been located. Initial information indicated a child may have been in the SUV, investigators have learned that information is not correct. Only an adult male and an adult female were in the vehicle, both have been located. The investigation is ongoing.

Previous:

At 12:08 this afternoon, the Grand County Sheriff Office, Utah advised a white Tahoe was driving erratically on I-70 towards Colorado.

Area law enforcement from multiple agencies immediately responded. The vehicle was located on I-70, a traffic stop was initiated, but the driver did not stop. The SUV briefly drove the wrong way on I-70 then drove north and crossed over the median of the interstate. It then drove on the bike path then continued onto Highway 6 and 50.

In the 1100 block of 16 Road, it’s believed a person in the vehicle attempted to steal a car at a residence but was interrupted by the owner. The suspect got back into the Tahoe and continued driving north. No injuries were reported.

Deputies located the suspect on the 1300 block of 16 Road appearing to attempt to steal another car. The adult male, identified as 28-year-old Isaiah Tate, was arrested without further incident. Charges are pending further investigation.

Deputies are working to locate a passenger that was believed to be in the SUV and may now be traveling on foot. The person is described as a Hispanic female, possibly in her 20s. Deputies would like to locate her to verify her wellbeing. Her description was sent through a community notification to 573 residents between 14-18 Roads and Highway 6 and 50 and O Road. If seen, please call 911.

Investigators have determined the Tahoe was stolen out of Arapahoe County. 16 Road was closed for a short period of time, it is now back open.

Multiple agencies assisted with this incident including the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol, Fruita Police Department, Grand Junction Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Bureau of Land Management.

This case remains under investigation.
