How it works
Scammers may try to steal your personal information or money by sending you an email designed to look link it's from a legitimate company. Companies like, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, banks, and local utility companies are commonly spoofed to trick people into giving over their information.
Red Flags
1. Look to see who is the email really from? It may say it's from the company, however, when you hover the name with your mouse, the real sender is revealed. If it is from a real company, the email will be very simple. If it's from a scammer, it will be very obvious it is fake.
2. DON"T click on the link in the email. It could malware, ransomware, or even a fake website meant to trick you to give over your personal information (like your bank account password). Instead, hover your mouse over the link in the email and it will show the true destination.
What to do
If you have determined it's a scam ignore it. If you are not sure. Go to the company's website NOT by clicking the email, but rather by googling it. Then you can log on to your account as normal and look to see if there is a problem. If you are still not sure, call us.
