Late on August 15, 2023, deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 3000 block of Wellington Avenue for a report of someone breaking into a car. Upon arrival, deputies contacted a 14-year-old juvenile male matching the description. The juvenile was found to be in possession of multiple items of stolen property.
After further investigation, deputies learned a 16-year-old male was also involved. When contacted, he was also found to have stolen items in his possession. Ultimately, the 14-year-old juvenile was issued a summons and released to a parent. The 16-year-old was taken into custody and transported to the Division of Youth Services.
A neighborhood canvas resulted in six victims; however, deputies believe there may be more.
