The Hillsboro Police Department wants to warns residents about a current scam in the area. Multiple people have reported that they have been scammed out of large sums of money, from people identifying themselves as past and present Officers of the Hillsboro Police Department. No officer from our department will ever contact you stating that you have Local, State or Federal warrants for your arrest that you can pay with Crypto Currency, gift cards, Cash Application Services, or any other form of payment. While contacting someone about a warrant over the phone is not uncommon, we cannot stress enough that no amount of money will ever be requested to be paid over the phone to make your warrant "go away". If you receive a call from someone, claiming to be an Officer and they specifically ask you to pay money over the phone, please hang up and call our Dispatch Center, to report it.
