The Keenesburg Police Department will partner with Weld County School District Re-3J to provide a school resource officer (SRO) to Weld Central High School and @weldcentralmiddleschool beginning next school year.
In an effort to provide the best in community policing, the Police Department has joined the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) and will use their certification curriculum to credential its first SRO. The chief of police will attend NASRO's SRO administrator curriculum, too, ensuring that the SRO program in your community is state-of-the-industry and follows national best practices.
NASRO, the world’s leader in school-based policing, is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1991 for school-based law enforcement officers, school administrators and school security and/or safety professionals who work as partners to protect schools and their students, faculty and staff members. NASRO developed the “triad” concept of school-based policing, which divides SRO responsibilities into three areas: educator, informal counselor/mentor and law enforcement officer. By training law enforcement officers to educate, counsel and protect school communities, the more than 3,000 men and women of NASRO continuously lead by example and promote a positive image of law enforcement to school children and school communities.
NASRO is recognized as the leader in SRO education, training, and advocacy. Their programs are sanctioned by the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST) as well as the The Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS). NASRO bills its training programs as the "gold standard," and recognition by IADLEST and the Department of Justice's COPS Office lend credence to their billing.
We are proud to bring this quality of community-based policing to your local schools.
