UPDATE 8:00 PM, June 20, 2025:
Fire personnel have been working diligently to make progress on this fire. They have had to battle the wind, the fire, and high temperatures. We thank them for their efforts.
At this time initial estimates place the fire around 500 acres in size, and containment at 60%.
Moffat County Road 17 is reopened at this time, and Highway 13 remains open as well.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. We urge the public to please be fire-aware, check for dragging chains on their vehicles before traveling, and not throw cigarettes or anything out of their windows.
More updates will be provided as they become available.
UPDATE 10:30 AM, June 21, 2025:
Firstly, we would like to thank all the surrounding area fire agencies that have also responded to help, including West Routt Fire District, Meeker Fire Rescue, Oak Creek Fire, and those mentioned yesterday.
Today, fire suppression efforts continue. BLM fire personnel, Oak Creek Fire, and Moffat County Sheriff's Office Wildfire crews remain in the area.
Both Highway 13 and Moffat County Road 17 remain open at this time. However, depending on wind and fire conditions, this could change. Please refer to https://www.cotrip.org/home for any road closures and conditions before traveling.
Due to the high winds, we expect to see high levels of smoke, dust, and fire debris in the air. This could potentially lead to decreased visibility in the area please drive with caution.
We will release more updates as they become available, including travel conditions, the size of the fire, and containment.
UPDATE: 7:45 PM, June 21, 2025:
As of this update, the Colowyo Wildland Fire has reached 100% containment and is estimated to have grown to 585 acres. Crews will continue to monitor for hotspots.
Again, we would like to express our gratitude to all the fire personnel who worked tirelessly to put this fire out over the past two days. It is a testament to their dedication to our community that, despite the wind they faced with this fire, they were able to get it contained as quickly as they did.
More updates will be provided if and when they become available.
