FRUITA, COLO. - On February 15, 2026, at 10:09 a.m. officers with the Fruita Police Department and Deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle crashing into the front of a home on the 1600 block of Powis Lane in Fruita, Colorado.

Two occupants were able to leave the home after the crash occurred. The male driver of the vehicle proceeded to barricade himself inside of the home. The male was known to have access to firearms, prompting the response of the combined Mesa County Sheriff’s Office and Grand Junction Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.

With the consent of the homeowner, the SWAT Team accessed the home and deployed a drone, where they found the male deceased. 

This was an isolated incident and there is no outstanding threat to the community.
