Clifton, Colorado - At 12:40 pm yesterday, the Mesa County Sheriff's Office and Clifton Fire Department were dispatched to a camper trailer on fire in the Murdoch's / Denny's parking lot. Upon arrival, deputies could see white smoke coming from the top of the camper, and sounds of whining dogs in distress could also be heard from the outside. Deputies immediately took action to rescue the 14 dogs locked inside the trailer. Four of the dogs were provided oxygen by firefighters and transported to an emergency veterinarian for treatment. One deputy was injured after suffering a burn to his hand along with minor scratches. He was evaluated and treated by paramedics on scene. Thank you goes out to Murdoch's for immediately providing kennels to help corral the dogs while firefighters put out the flames.
