GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. - In the early morning of February 17, 2026, an inmate was found unresponsive in her cell within the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies, medical staff, and emergency medical personnel immediately performed life saving measures. Despite intervention efforts, the inmate was pronounced deceased.

The incident is under investigation. The Mesa County Coroner’s Office is responsible for determining the cause and manner of death, as well as releasing the identity of the victim.

Next of kin of the individual has been notified. No further information is available at this time.
