At approximately 10:00 this morning, deputies received a report of a possible shooting at a residence on the 100 block of Mesa Vista Road in Grand Junction.
A witness reported a member of the household shot at them and received a minor injury. They were able to leave the residence safely and call 911.
Deputies quickly arrived and immediately began work to locate the person still believed to be inside the residence. The combined Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sheriff’s Office SWAT were called to assist.
Roads in the immediate area were closed, including Mesa Vista Road and South Broadway while law enforcement worked to contact the individual. An emergency notification to shelter in place was also sent to homes in the immediate area.
Ultimately a 24-year-old male and 44-year-old male were found deceased. At this point in the investigation, investigators believe all parties involved are accounted for. There is no ongoing public safety threat to the community.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. The Mesa County Coroner's Office is responsible for determining the cause and manner of death as well as releasing the name of the deceased once next of kin is notified.
The shelter in place has since been lifted. Roads in the area are now open. Residents can expect to see a continued law enforcement presence in the area over the next several hours
