At 9:48 pm on May 18, 2024, deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office and the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a reported shooting at a graduation party taking place at one of the Mesa County Fairgrounds Community Buildings located at 2750 Hwy-50 in Grand Junction. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that two victims, a 37-year-old male and a 24-year-old male, had sustained gunshot wounds and were being taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle. A 26-year-old male was detained at the scene and transported to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office for questioning.
Preliminary information indicates the shooting was possibly the result of an altercation that took place. This was an isolated incident, and everyone involved has been contacted. There is no further threat to the community. The investigation remains active and ongoing, and there is no further information that will be released at this time.
