GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. - On July 1, 2026, at 3:20 a.m., deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suspect potentially checking the door handles of vehicles on the 2900 block of Mesa Avenue in Grand Junction, Colorado.
During a search of the area, deputies contacted and detained a male matching the suspect’s description. The male verbally identified himself, which was determined to be false. Deputies were able to accurately identify the suspect as Skyler Kemp, 29, of Rifle, Colorado.
A search of the male’s backpack revealed multiple items belonging to residents in the surrounding neighborhood. Deputies contacted many of the victims, some of whom had not yet discovered the thefts, and returned property when possible. Property that was unable to be returned has been booked into evidence.
Kemp was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:
- Violation of a protection order, Misdemeanor 2
- Violation of a protection order, Misdemeanor 2
- Criminal possession of four or more financial devices, Felony 5
- Criminal possession of an identification document - two or more, Felony 6
- False reporting of identifying information to law enforcement, Misdemeanor 2
- 1st Degree criminal auto trespass with intent to commit crime, Misdemeanor 1
- 1st Degree criminal auto trespass with intent to commit crime, Misdemeanor 1
- 1st Degree criminal auto trespass with intent to commit crime, Misdemeanor 1
- Theft - $300-$1000 - from motor vehicle, Misdemeanor 2
- Unlawful possession of <4G controlled substance schedule I/II, flunitrazepam, ketamine, GHB, Drug Misdemeanor 1
- Possession of drug paraphernalia, Drug Petty Offense
- Unauthorized use of financial transaction device <$300, Petty Offense
- Fugitive other jurisdiction warrant
