Mobile Crisis Clinician Program

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office works in partnership with Mind Springs Health to provide Mesa County with Mobile Crisis Intervention services.  This coordinated and collaborative effort provides community members with immediate mental health/crisis services in a safe environment. Mind Springs Health Mobile Crisis Clinicians work in conjunction with, and in support of, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division.  Crisis Clinicians are co-located with patrol deputies at the Clifton substation and respond to all calls from the Colorado State Crisis Line, and emergency situations as needed. During an emergency, deputies first ensure everyone's safety, then clinicians can work directly with the individual experiencing a crisis.

While deputies are trained in de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques, Crisis Clinicians are pivotal to treating persons in place and establishing appropriate ongoing care, or finding alternatives to keep crisis patients out of local hospital emergency rooms where there is otherwise no medical need. Since partnering directly with Mind Springs Health at the start of 2020, first responders have been able to bridge service gaps and make it easier for people in crisis to access critical care.
