An Humble Police Department Canine Officer received notification through License Plate Readers (LPR) that the registered owner of a white Hyundai Coupe who had active warrants from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office was in the are of 9400-BLK FM 1960 Byp.
The officer was able to narrow down that the vehicle was possibly parked in the Academy parking lot. Officers in the area located the vehicle, observed it was unoccupied and waited for the owner to return.
Suddenly and without warning, the registered owner/defendant with the warrants was seen running out of Academy with an armful of merchandise that had just been stolen.
The female entered her vehicle and and began to flee from marked police units that were behind her with lights and sirens on. While running from police, she struck a parked vehicle and nearly ran into pedestrians walking in the parking lot.
Shortly after, she threw all the stolen merchandise out of her vehicle and into the roadway. The female ended up getting caught in gridlock traffic and was apprehended by multiple officers. The female was taken to jail and charged with Felony theft (due to her previous convictions), felony evading in a motor vehicle and several municipal traffic violations.
Another great proactive case that wouldn't be possible without the work of our officers on the street with the latest and greatest technology at their use. Good work officers!
