Humble Police Officers responded to a call at Deerbrook Mall last night regarding a catalytic converter theft in progress. An off-duty tow truck driver, who was shopping with his family, overheard a saw being used under a vehicle and quickly notified the police. He then followed the suspect as they attempted to flee the scene.
The suspect tried to evade the police by driving away, but after a brief vehicle pursuit, he jumped out of the moving car, which then rolled into a curb and came to a stop. A Humble Police canine handler and their K9 partner, Jeffery, were hot on the suspect's heels on foot. Following a 350-yard foot chase, Jeffery successfully apprehended the suspect, bringing the pursuit to an end and taking them into custody.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect had an outstanding warrant out of Colorado for a 2022 burglary. Additionally, officers recovered the stolen catalytic converter and an electric saw from the vehicle's seat where the suspect was sitting.
The suspect has a lengthy criminal history, including multiple thefts, evading police, and violent charges. He now face additional charges for Evading in a Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Detached Catalytic Converter under the Humble Municipal Ordinance.
