Culpeper Police Arrest Three for November ATM Burglary

Original press release: https://crimewatch.net/us/va/culpeper-county/culpeper-pd/117322/incident...

On November 27, 2024 at approximately 3:19 AM, Culpeper Police Department officers responded to a burglary in progress at Atlantic Union Bank, located at 231 Southgate Shopping Center. That night, suspects burglarized the bank’s ATM, stolen an undisclosed amount of cash, and evaded several pursuing law enforcement agencies.

In the following months, Culpeper Police Department detectives conducted a comprehensive investigation spanning jurisdictions and crossing state lines. As a result, the Culpeper Police Department has charged three individuals for the burglary: Aaron D. Baccus, 44, of Loganville (GA); Raychelle Jones, 26, of Chesapeake Beach (MD); and Gerald J. Pearson, 40, of Baltimore (MD). All three were arrested for felony Conspiracy to Commit Grand Larceny, felony Grand Larceny, felony Destruction of Property, felony Possession of Stolen Goods, and felony Possession of Burglarious Tools. Upon their arrests, all three were held without bond pending their trials.

Based on current evidence, Pearson, Baccus, and Jones were co-conspirators who intentionally planned to travel from Prince George’s County (MD) to Culpeper (VA) to burglarizing the ATM. The trio used a vehicle stolen from Fairfax County (VA) along with various burglarious tools to destroy the ATM. They emptied the contents of the ATM, to include a large sum of currency, before fleeing back to Prince George’s County (MD). In Maryland, Prince George’s County Police Department apprehended the trio still driving the stolen vehicle and with the stolen ATM currency in their possession.

The Culpeper Police Department thanks all of our partner agencies for their assistance with this case, particularly the Prince George’s County Police Department. Thank you to the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office and Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office for their immediate assistance during the initial investigation.
