On March 5, 2025, the Culpeper Police Department arrested Reydy Caal Butz, 20, of Culpeper, as the result of an extensive investigation that began in the fall of 2024.

In August of 2024, the Culpeper Police Department received a report that an inappropriate sexual relationship had developed between a 17 year old male and a juvenile victim. Detective M. Hays completed an extensive investigation and determined that the male was actually a 20 year old Culpeper resident who had lied to the victim about his name and age. Modern technology, investigative techniques, and procedures were utilized to positively identify the suspect and investigate the allegations.   

As a result of this investigation, the Culpeper Police Department charged Caal Butz with felony Use of a Communications Device to Commit Certain Offenses Involving Children, felony Indecent Liberties, and felony Carnal Knowledge of a Child Between the ages of 13 and 15 years old.

On March 5th, Caal Butz was arrested at a residence in the 2100 blk of Peachtree Ct by Culpeper Police officers. Following his arrest, detectives executed a search warrant at the residence where additional evidence was recovered. Caal Butz was taken before a magistrate who ordered him to be held without bond at the Culpeper County Jail. Additional charges may be filed.

“The Culpeper Police Department takes offenses like these seriously and will continue to take proactive action to enforce the law to its fullest extent” said Chief Chris Settle.
