The Culpeper Police Department is proud to announce the promotion Lieutenant Kevin Tooley to the rank of Captain. Captain Tooley will oversee the agency’s Patrol Operations, the largest division within Culpeper Police Department, and continue to serve the Culpeper community with distinction.
After serving the US Army, Captain Tooley began his career with the Culpeper Police Department in 1997 as a patrol officer. Since then, he’s served as Lead Firearms Instructor, Lead Armorer, General Instructor, Field Trainer, RADAR/ LIDAR Instructor, and Lead Taser Instructor. From 2006 to 2007, Captain Tooley served as an International Police Trainer in Iraq. When he returned to Culpeper Police Department from Iraq, Captain Tooley advanced through the ranks from Master Police Officer to Sergeant to Lieutenant. While holding these leadership positions, Captain Tooley demonstrated professionalism, dedication, and a commitment to public safety.
“Captain Tooley has proven himself as an exceptional leader throughout his career,” said Chief Chris Settle. “His experience, vision, and passion for service make him an ideal choice to lead our Patrol Operations Division.”
Reflecting on his promotion, Captain Tooley said, “It’s been an honor to serve the Town of Culpeper for nearly three decades. I’m humbled by this opportunity to lead the men and women of our Patrol Division, and remain committed to working alongside them to keep our community safe.”
Beyond his service to the department, Captain Tooley is a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and his wife, Tonya, have three sons: Benjamin, Tyler, and Zachary, and a grandson, Jack.
The Culpeper Police Department congratulates Captain Tooley on this well-deserved promotion and looks forward to his continued leadership.
