As the temperatures continue to be on the rise, the Batavia Police Department wants to remind you of the dangers of leaving your pets unattended in vehicles. It's a mistake that can have devastating consequences for your furry friends.
Leaving your pet in a parked car, even for just a few minutes, can be deadly. The inside of a vehicle can quickly reach extreme temperatures, causing heatstroke and even death. This is especially true for dogs, who can't regulate their body temperature as efficiently as humans.
Here are some alarming facts:
- On a 70°F day, the inside of a car can reach 104°F in just 30 minutes.
- On a 90°F day, the inside of a car can reach 129°F in just 10 minutes.
- Heatstroke can occur in as little as 15 minutes, even with the windows cracked.
Don't risk your pet's life! If you're going to be away from your vehicle for any amount of time, leave your pet at home where it's safe and cool. If you see a pet left unattended in a vehicle, call 911.
Remember, your pet's safety is in your hands. Let's work together to prevent these avoidable tragedies.
Stay safe, and stay informed!
