The Batavia Police Department investigated a car vs. pedestrian accident that occurred around 8:30AM this morning at the intersection of East Main Street at Swan Street. According to multiple witnesses on scene a pedestrian, Angel Kemp age 23 of Batavia, had the right of way walking in the crosswalk northbound across East Main Street. A Jeep, operated by Jean Monroe age 73 of Batavia, was making a left hand turn from southbound Ross Street on to eastbound East Main Street. The operator of the Jeep failed to yield to the pedestrian in the crosswalk, subsequently striking the pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported by Mercy EMS to an awaiting Mercy Flight helicopter with serious injuries. The pedestrian was then transported to Strong Memorial Hospital and was admitted to the ICU under guarded conditions.
The operator of the Jeep was issued traffic tickets for the following offenses;
- Failure to Yield Right of Way to a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk
- Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent
- Failure to Exercise Due Care
- Improper Left Turn
- Driver's View Obstructed
- Uninspected Motor Vehicle
