On 8/19/2022, the Batavia Police Detective Bureau arrested Jeremy Ives at the Genesee County Courthouse for charges stemming from the shooting investigation near 2 Elm St reported on 8/12/2022. Ives is charged with 2 counts of Attempted Assault in the first degree, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree, Kidnapping in the second degree, Criminal use of Firearm in the first and second degree and Menacing in the second degree.
On 8/12/2022, it is alleged that Ives fired a single shot, injuring two persons. Detectives believe the weapon used was a shotgun, which Ives is alleged to have been in possession of unlawfully. One of the victims was transported to the hospital, where they were treated and later released. The other victim was treated on scene and released. Following the shooting, Ives fled the scene in a vehicle with other passengers. It is alleged that one of those passengers attempted to exit the vehicle multiple times, however, Ives threatened the passenger, preventing their escape.
The motive for the shooting is still under investigation, however, it appears that Ives and at least one of the victims were known to each other.
Ives was arraigned in Batavia City Court before Judge Rogers and remanded to Genesee County Jail with no bail set. Ives is scheduled to reappear in court on a later date.
