Business Licenses & Home Occupations in the Town
The Town of Lochbuie requires a business license for anyone conducting or advertising a business within town limits. This includes anyone who performs any part of a business activity, whether directly or through employees or partners. Businesses located outside the town are generally exempt if they only enter the town intermittently for service calls or contract work.
Home‑based businesses—known as home occupations—are allowed as long as they remain secondary to the residential use of the property and follow specific standards. Permitted home occupations include offices, art or craft studios, family child care homes, dressmaking, one‑client beauty services, one‑student tutoring, and limited dog breeding in certain zones.
Home occupations must be run only by residents of the home, use no more than 25% of the dwelling and accessory buildings, and avoid exterior changes, noise, odors, or other impacts on neighbors. No commercial vehicles over 10,000 pounds may be used, and no additional parking may be created. Certain uses—such as auto repair, retail stores, restaurants, medical clinics, welding, equipment rental, and firearm sales—are not allowed in residential areas.
All home‑based businesses must still obtain any required federal, state, county, or town licenses or permits.
Please contact the Lochbuie Community Service Officer or Town Hall for questions and/or obtaining a license.
