The City of Batavia announces the appointment of Assistant Chief of Police Christopher Camp to the position of Chief of Police, and Detective Sergeant Matthew Lutey to the position of Assistant Chief of Police for the City of Batavia. Chief Camp and Assistant Chief Lutey will move into their new positions on December 1, 2025 when Chief Shawn Heubusch assumes his new role as Assistant City Manager.
Assistant Chief Christopher Camp Appointed as Chief of Police
Assistant Chief Chris Camp has been appointed as the next Chief of Police for the City of Batavia. Chief Camp has served the community with professionalism, dedication, and a strong commitment to public safety throughout his career. He has demonstrated outstanding leadership and earned the respect of his colleagues, city staff, and residents alike.
Chris is a 19 year veteran of the Police Department, having served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Emergency Response Team member, Sergeant assigned to 2nd Platoon and Emergency Response Team Commander. Chief Camp holds certifications as a General Topics Instructor and Firearms Instructor, amongst others. He has been recognized for his service to the community on many occasions, including being recognized as Officer of the Year for his committment to the Department and community.

Detective Sergeant Matthew Lutey Appointed as Assistant Chief of Police
Detective Sergeant Matt Lutey has been appointed as the next Assistant Chief of Police for the City of Batavia. Detective Sergeant Lutey has been with the department since 2011 and has served in many key roles, including Road Patrol Sergeant and Detective Sergeant. In every position, he has shown dedication, leadership, and a strong commitment to the safety and well-being of our department and community.
Matt is a 2011 graduate of the Niagara Law Enforcement Training Academy and served our country in the United States Air Force where he was delployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom prior to becoming a Police Officer for the City. Detective Sergeant Lutey serves as a Defensive Tactics Instructor, a prior member of the Emergency Response Team, a Field Training Officer and was instrumental in the development of the School Resource Officer and Neighborhood Enforcement Team (NET) programs.
