The City of Batavia Police Department in conjunction with the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police (NYSACOP) and the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) would like to provide the public with important information regarding what to do and expect when being pulled over by a police officer.
Our officers recognize that this may be a stressful situation for individuals and want to make sure the interaction does not escalate. We also would like to remind the public that the traffic stop is considered one of the most dangerous situations for a police officer due to many factors. However, an officer has a responsibility to ask certain questions and complete certain tasks during the stop depending on the circumstances. Cooperation is key to ensuring the stop does not escalate.
Our Department continues to be committed to professional delivery of services to the public. If you have a question about this, or any other law enforcement related topics, do not hesitate to ask any of our police officers.
