The Culpeper Police Department has arrested and charged a teen juvenile in connection to multiple investigations.
On September 27, 2024 at approximately 7:52AM officers responded to a residence in the 200-block of Duke St for a stolen vehicle. The victim advised that their vehicle had gone missing overnight and that no one else was supposed to have the vehicle.
Officers began canvassing the Town looking for the vehicle and eventually located it in the 1300-block of Spring Meadow Lane. As the officer was conducting their initial investigation to confirm that this was the stolen vehicle, a subject approached the officer and activated the car’s locks. The officer recognized the subject as a juvenile with outstanding petitions and a detention order, and attempted to make contact with the juvenile.
The juvenile instead chose to flee on foot. As officers and a Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office K9 team responded to establish a perimeter, the juvenile attempted to return to the vehicle and flee in the stolen car. The initial officer had remained with the stolen vehicle, so the juvenile continued to attempt to evade law enforcement while on foot. A member of the Culpeper Police Department Drone Team located the juvenile attempting to hide in multiple backyards along Belle Ave and Stratton Blvd. The drone pilot guided officers to the exact back porch where the juvenile was hidden, and the juvenile was successfully taken into custody. The keys to the stolen vehicle were found in the juvenile’s possession.
As a result of this investigations, the Culpeper Police Department obtained an additional petition for one count of felony Grand Larceny. The juvenile was served on the outstanding petitions and detention order. The Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office transported the juvenile to the Blue Ridge Juvenile Detention Center. Additional charges will be filed based on the continuing investigations. Per Virginia law, no additional identifying information about the juvenile will be released.
This juvenile has been connected to three other active investigations. On August 12, 2024 at approximately 11:42PM, Culpeper Police Department officers responded to the burglary of a business in the 1400-block of N Main St. Culpeper Police Department detectives identified a juvenile as the offender. On August 29th petitions were obtained for one count of felony Breaking and Entering and one count of misdemeanor Larceny. The juvenile was scheduled to appear in the Culpeper County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on September 19th but failed to appear.
On August 29, 2024 at approximately 12:07AM, officers responded to the burglary of a business in the 700-block of Dominion Square Shopping Center. Based on the investigation, the same offender in the August 12th commercial burglary was also responsible for this burglary. Detectives obtained additional petitions for one count of felony Breaking and Entering and one count of misdemeanor Larceny. With these petitions, Juvenile Intake also issued a detention order.
On September 7, 2024 at approximately 12:55AM, officers responded to the same business in the 700-block of Dominion Square Shopping Center for a second burglary. The detectives obtained evidence that indicated this burglary was connected to the ones on August 12th and August 29th.
