Unused or unwanted prescription medications should not be kept around the house where they're accessible to children or could be stolen by thieves. It is also not recommended to place medications in the regular trash or flush them down the toilet

The Newberry Township Police Department is now participating in the York County Solid Waste Authority’s Medication Take-Back Box program. York County residents who have unused or unwanted medications can stop by the Newberry Township Police Department during normal business hours and place the medications in the secure lock-box. The box is located in the lobby of the police department.  The lobby is open Monday-Friday 8:00 am -4:30 pm.

The secure medication take-back box, works like a mailbox: once medications are deposited, they cannot be retrieved and are contained in a locked compartment accessible only by law enforcement. Medication collected in the take-back box program will be delivered by the Newberry Township Police Department to the York County Solid Waste Authority.

Residents interested in dropping medication at the take-back box at Newberry Township should remove their personal information from containers before depositing them in boxes. 

Only residential prescriptions or over-the-counter medications are accepted.  Pharmacies, hospitals and other commercial sources of medications are not eligible to participate.

Accepted items include: solid prescription medications, prescription patches, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and medications for pets.

The following items are not accepted: illegal drugs, inhalers, hydrogen peroxide, personal care products, thermometers, liquids, lotions non-prescription ointments, needles, bloody or infectious waste, and medications from businesses or clinics.

We want to provide a safe way to dispose of these potentially drugs to make our community a safer place to live.  We are appreciative of the York County Solid Waste Authority  with this program.
