In 2004, the Police Department established a Chaplain program after recognizing a need for this type of support and skill set. While it is not the police department’s intention to promote any particular religious belief system, it is widely recognized that members of clergy have experience and training that allows them to relate to people in times of extreme stress. The goal of the chaplain program is to make counseling and pastoral services available to the members of the Department and their families, as well as citizens during times of crisis or turmoil. 

Chaplain Dave Cantrell has volunteered his time many years and has assisted the Department with numerous situations and incidents where citizens in need have requested his assistance and counseling. Our long‑standing Chaplain Program plays an important role in how we care for our community. Whether assisting victims in crisis, providing comfort at difficult scenes, or supporting our officers, Chaplain Cantrell’s dedication strengthens the heart of our mission.

 He routinely conducts ride-alongs with the officers and is available for confidential meetings at the officers, or citizens request where he provides advice, comfort and resources to those who seek support regardless of religious or non- affiliation. We’re grateful for his continued service and the meaningful impact he brings to our department.
