The Patrol Division is the backbone of the police department and responsible for responding to all calls for service and the investigation of criminal cases that don't require the specialty of the detectives division. Each patrol squad is staffed by one sergeant in charge and two patrol officers covering the 12,000 residents and 16 square miles of patrol area. A typical tour of duty for the patrol division may include effecting an arrest, the investigation of a traffic accident, assisting medical professionals in a medical emergency, or performing crime and traffic prevention details throughout the township. Their high visibility and constant patrolling makes them a strong deterrent. Officers in this division can be seen checking businesses, parks, schools, and neighborhoods as well as enforcing traffic laws on our various highways.
