Thomasville Police Department Organizational Overview

The Thomasville Police Department is organized into two primary sections: Support Services and Operations. Each division within the department operates under one of these two sections to ensure the efficient delivery of law enforcement services and administrative support to the community.

Support Services

The Support Services Section provides the administrative and logistical functions necessary to support the department's operational mission. This section includes:

• Records Division
• Municipal Court Operations
• Crime Intelligence Analyst
• Training Unit
• Property and Evidence Unit
• Information Technology

These units are responsible for maintaining departmental records, managing evidence, coordinating officer training, supporting court operations, analyzing crime trends, and maintaining the department's technology infrastructure.

Operations

The Operations Section is responsible for the department's frontline law enforcement functions and consists of three primary divisions:

• Patrol Division
• Criminal Investigations Division
• Special Operations Division

The Thomasville Police Department is currently authorized to employ 59 sworn law enforcement officers. 

Current personnel assignments include:

• Patrol Division: 22 officers
• Criminal Investigations/Narcotics Division: 9 Detectives
• School Resource Officers/Community Engagement Division: 5 officers
• Training Division: 2 officers
• Community Service Officers (CSO): 3 personnel

• Administration: 5 officers

Patrol Division

The Patrol Division serves as the backbone of the Thomasville Police Department and is responsible for providing 24-hour police services throughout the city. The division is organized into four patrol teams, each supervised by a Watch Commander and an Assistant Watch Commander.

Patrol personnel work 12-hour shifts and rotate between day and night shifts every four months. Their primary responsibilities include:

• Responding to calls for service
• Investigating misdemeanor crimes within the city limits
• Conducting preliminary criminal investigations
• Investigating traffic crashes
• Enforcing traffic laws
• Directing traffic during emergencies and special events
• Providing escorts for businesses, dignitaries, and funeral processions
• Maintaining a visible law enforcement presence to deter criminal activity

Criminal Investigations Division

The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is responsible for investigating serious criminal offenses occurring within the City of Thomasville. The division's responsibilities include:

• Investigating felony crimes against persons
• Investigating felony property crimes
• Conducting narcotics investigations
• Investigating gang-related criminal activity
• Processing crime scenes and collecting evidence
• Performing digital forensic examinations
• Assisting patrol officers with complex investigations

Special Operations Division

The Special Operations Division provides specialized law enforcement services and community-focused programs. This division includes:

• Community Relations
• School Resource Officers (SRO)
