Today the Craig Police Department has received calls of possible scam activity. It seem that unknown person(s) are placing call in attempts to collect power bill payments for past due accounts stating they are Yampa Valley Electric. Please be vigilant and do not fall victim to a scam. Be certain of whom you are giving credit card or any banking information to, especially over the phone. 

If you are in doubt, hang-up and call the creditor back at their listed number on your statement. We checked Yampa Valley Electric's  website and on the top is the following message:

"As always, members should be on the lookout for suspicious emails, phone calls, or persons impersonating business employees or charitable organizations. If you get a call from someone claiming to represent YVEA, and they make threats or demand immediate payment, hang up and call us at (970) 879-1160."
