Drug Arrest Made

On Sunday November 10, 2024 the All Crimes Enforcement Team (ACET) arrested a 77-year-old Hayden resident, John Gibson Lewis, after he was found to be in possession of approximately 665 grams (1.46 pounds) of suspected methamphetamine. It is believed these illegal drugs were destined for the Hayden and/or Steamboat Springs area in Routt County.

Mr. Lewis was booked in to the Moffat County Jail on the charges of Unlawful Distribution, Manufacturing, Dispensing, or Sale of a Schedule II Controlled Substance (greater than 225 grams) and as a Special Offender since it is suspected that he introduced/imported drugs from outside the State of Colorado. The drug charge is a Class 1 Drug Felony. Mr. Lewis is currently being held on a $50,000 cash/surety bond at the Moffat County Jail.

This arrested was the culmination of a lengthy 10-month-long investigation that began in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The Routt County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the initial investigation. The Craig Police Department and the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office assisted with Sunday’s contact and subsequent arrest.

ACET and area Law Enforcement remain committed to aggressively enforcing drugs laws in Northwest Colorado. ACET is a multijurisdictional task force whose primary mission is to identify, disrupt, and dismantle drug trafficking organizations in our jurisdiction.

At this stage of case, the crime(s) listed are merely allegations, all subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Law Enforcement encourages residents to reports suspicions of illegal drug activity to their local authorities.
