The hiring process takes 3-4 months to complete (unfortunately there is no way to shorten the process) and follows the 8 steps listed below:
1. Application Submission
Submit Application and processing fee by deadline.
Score a 70% or higher and get invited to move on to the fitness test
Test is pass or fail. Pass and you move onto the interviews
Interviews are conducted by an interview board composed of police and civilians. After interviews applicants are ranked by written and interview scores for a final total score and placed on a certified hiring list.
5. Final Application Packet Submission
6. Creation of Eligibility List
List is certified by the SARPD police commission
7. Background Investigation
Applicants who pass Background Investigations are eligible for hire and disqualified applicants are notified. Depending on the number of open positions available, select qualifying applicants at the top of the list will be given conditional offers of employment.
