The Dallas Township Police Department is proud to introduce the Blue Envelope Program — a community initiative designed to support autistic and neurodiverse drivers during interactions with law enforcement. The program is sponsored by Lehigh Valley Health Network, part of Jefferson Health.
The Blue Envelope Program is intended primarily for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), but it also supports drivers with:
Traffic stops can be stressful for anyone. For autistic individuals or those with communication needs, that stress can make it difficult to speak, respond, or follow instructions. The Blue Envelope gives officers important context and information to help make the interaction safer and more comfortable for everyone involved.
Drivers keep a Blue Envelope in their vehicle containing:
The front of the envelope alerts officers to the communication need and provides simple instructions for the driver.
The back offers quick guidance for officers to help ensure the interaction proceeds calmly and safely.
Inside, a detailed information sheet explains how ASD or communication differences may affect a driver’s ability to communicate, respond to questions, or process instructions. It also includes contact information for those who can provide additional support if needed.
Blue Envelopes may be picked up at any time at:
Dallas Township Police Department
