Saranac Lake is expecting a celestial event on Monday April 8th, a total solar eclipse. This long awaited event is projected to bring thousands of people to the greater Adirondack Region. Residents and Tourists are reminded to utilize some of the following basic Safety Tips:
1.) Remember to wear approved solar eclipse glasses from a reliable source whenever viewing the Eclipse.
2.) Do not for any reason stare directly at the sun without proper eye protection.
3.) Please do not park along major roadways or areas of no parking that may create traffic hazards.
4.) Do not view the eclipse while driving, and do not drive while wearing the solar eclipse glasses.
5.) Please respect property owners and do not park on private property or access private property without permission.
6.) If you plan to view this event from the back country, please make sure you are prepared and adequately equipped to do so. The Adirondacks still has snow in many areas and mud, runoff, etc can make trails slippery and unsafe. Becoming wet and cold can set Hypothermia in rapidly.
Please make this once in a lifetime event, an enjoyable and safe event for all. Please utilize SLPD as a resource for any questions or concerns. We will have extra staff on to ensure everyone has a safe viewing of this event.
Saranac Lake will be hosting a street festival in front of the Hotel Saranac on Main Street from 2pm-6pm.
