
Chief Darin Perrotte began his career in law enforcement in 2005 with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office in Plattsburgh, NY. Chief Perrotte was a Special Deputy on the Marine Patrol assisting Sheriff’s Deputies with Navigation Law enforcement, rescue responses, and Community engagement on Lake Champlain.
In 2006 Chief Perrotte was hired full time as a Sheriff’s Deputy and attended the Zone 9 Plattsburgh Police Academy. He patrolled Clinton County as a Patrol Deputy until 2008. During that time Chief Perrotte also received training in Advanced Marine Patrol Operations and became a Child Safety Seat Technician.
In 2008 Chief Perrotte transferred to the City of Plattsburgh Police Department. Chief Perrotte worked as a Patrolman, Corporal, Sergeant, and finally Patrol Lieutenant in his 14 years at the Police Department. He received extensive training and oversaw the Department’s Field Training Program after serving many years as a Field Training Officer himself. Chief Perrotte also became a NYS DCJS General Topics instructor as well as an Instructor for several specialized topics in the Zone 9 Academy and has continued to instruct not only there but also at the Potsdam Police Academy as well as the NYS Forest Ranger Academy. Chief Perrotte received extensive training in Crash Management (Collision Investigation) and served as a member of the Plattsburgh Police Dept’s Accident Reconstruction Team. Chief Perrotte became very active in Mental Health of the Community as well as his Officers. He became certified as a Crisis Intervention/Mental Health Instructor for Police and also as a Peer Counselor for his fellow Officers. He remains actively engaged in Officer Mental Health. Chief Perrotte is a NYS certified Crisis Intervention Officer as well as an FBI Certified Crisis/Hostage Negotiator.
In early 2022, Chief Perrotte learned of the Chief’s position vacancy in Saranac Lake and made the move to the Saranac Lake Police Department.
