Depending on the charge listed on the Uniform Traffic Ticket you can either appear in person at the date, time, and location listed OR you may respond by mail. Follow the instructions on your ticket. Please be sure to respond by the date and time listed in the manner listed in order to avoid a possible suspension of your driving privileges. Be aware that some offenses require in person appearance so again, follow the instructions on your specific ticket.
You may apply for a plea reduction by obtaining that paperwork from the Town or Village Court which you were issued the ticket for or from the Police Department or District Attorney’s Office.
You may contact the Agency that issued you the ticket or the Court which it was made returnable to.
If you have been involved in a traffic collision you should immediately stop, regardless of the damage. It is against the law to leave the scene of ANY traffic collision. You are required by law to provide your information to other drivers and police at the scene. The Saranac Lake Police Department will create an accident report when:
- Damage is excess of $1000.00
- Damage includes any public property
- Accident results in injury or death
