Often times, resources to deal with a mental health crisis or drug addiction issues are severely lacking. In an effort to combat this, the West Lampeter Township Police Department is embarking on a collaborative effort, pairing uniformed police officers with certified recovery specialists in an effort to provide better services to our community and beyond.
In January of 2024, The West Lampeter Township Police sponsored a week long joint training called “The Trauma Sensitive Peer” sponsored by the PA Mental Health Consumers Association. WLTPD officers, along with members of the Pequea Twp Police Department and several mental health professionals, attended this training.
In February of 2024, West Lampeter Township Police launched their co-responder program in concert with Blueprints for Addiction Recovery. This program pairs Officer Bryce Mowbray with Certified Recovery Specialist Leanna Ballester from Blueprints for Addiction Recovery. The goal has been to provide referrals to treatment options as an alternative to arrest or when the situation dictates. The West Lampeter Township Police Department wants to recognize Blueprints for Addiction and Recovery, along with the PA Mental Health Consumers Association, for their inspiration, guidance, support and training as we work to combat these issues.
We are excited to be a part of this endeavor, which has already provided needed services to many individuals within our service population.
