As part of our ongoing commitment to road safety, the York County Regional Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit would like to remind all drivers to turn on their headlights whenever their windshield wipers are in use.
This simple yet crucial action can significantly improve visibility on the road, reducing the risk of accidents and near-misses. By turning on your headlights, you'll not only be able to see the road ahead more clearly but also make your vehicle more visible to other drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.
Title 75 Section 4302 (a)(3) Periods For Requiring Lighted Lamps; " Any time when the vehicle's windshield wipers are in continuous or intermittent use due to precipitation or atmospheric moisture, including rain, snow, sleet or mist. Driver's may be stopped for this primary offense and could be given a warning or cited. Please help educate newer drivers in your family on this PA LAW.
Most headlamp settings of "AUTO" by the driver typically turn on headlamps when it is too dark, dealing with sunlight, and not weather related conditions during the daytime. Turning on your headlights also illuminates your taillights for motorists behind you.
So, the next time you're driving in rainy, snowy, or foggy conditions, remember to flip that switch and turn on your headlights. It's a small habit to get into, but it can make a big difference in keeping our roads safe for everyone, TOGETHER!
Stay safe, and stay visible!
