The York County Regional Police Department is an accredited agency through the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC).
York Area Regional Police Department received initial accreditation in 2008. The Department was then re-accredited in 2011, 2014, 2017, and 2020. Through the merger of two existing police departments; Northeastern Regional and York Area Regional - York County Regional Police was created with a new name and re-accredited in 2023. In 2025, Spring Garden Township Police Department, which was also an accredited agency, merged with the York County Regional Police. The Department continued to achieve the standards established by the PA Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC) and once again received re-accreditation status in June 2026.
The Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation program is voluntary and is administered by the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association.
The York County Regional Police Department is one of 205 law enforcement agencies in Pennsylvania to have achieved the accreditation status through the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association.
Accreditation provides assurances to residents, elected officials, staff, and our officers that the agency has committed itself to adopting policies, procedures, and systems that align with professional best-practices and legal mandates. There are currently 140 standards, 333 bullets (or sub-standards), or 473 best-practices that Accredited agencies must adopt and incorporate into their policies and procedures. The agency must show proof of compliance to these policies and procedures to a team of independent third-party assessors who assess the agency once every three years. The assessors evaluate every level and every corner of the agency to ensure we are in full compliance and will make a recommendation to the Accreditation Commission based on the agency's adherence to established standards.
Our next accreditation assessment will be in the Summer of 2029. We look forward to the challenge of maintaining our accreditation status and achieving the highest standards set forth by the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association.
