General Information

When is the Police Department open?

Fairview Township has Police officers working twenty four hours a day / 7 days a week.  The Police Department lobby is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, excluding holidays.

What kind of cars do the police officers drive?

Decades ago police vehicles were simply equipped with a bubble light, siren and two way radio.  Today’s police vehicles serve as mobile offices, command units, and prisoner transports. The Fairview Township Police Department fleet currently includes Ford Police Interceptor sedans and SUVs. These vehicles have all-wheel drive capability for improved handling in adverse weather.

While police cars are similar to their civilian counterparts, they do come equipped with some additional features from the factory to improve handling and performance for emergency response. All of our vehicles are equipped with mobile Data Lux computer terminals which provide officers with real time dispatch information,  as well as the ability to query driver’s license and warrant information.  The vehicles are also equipped with encrypted digital radios, printers, digital in car video, first aid kits and automatic external defibrillator (AED).

What kind of weapons does the police department use?

Today’s officers face a multitude of evolving dangers including work place and school violence to terrorism; the Fairview Township Police continually train and update our equipment and weapons. The officers are trained several times a year on the legal use of force and the weapons they carry. On the officer’s duty belt, they carry handcuffs, an expandable baton, a Taser, portable radio, handgun, and spare magazines. Our patrol officers are currently issued a Glock 45 9mm caliber handgun. The handguns have a flashlight and night sights for use in low light conditions. In the police car, each officer also has access to a 5.56 (.223) caliber AR-15 rifle for situations where more precision or firepower is needed. Also included in the department armory is a more powerful FNH SCAR .308 caliber rifle.
