The Manheim Township K9 Foundation is a non-profit foundation formed on October 12, 2023, with the sole purpose of providing for the needs and care of our K9s, as well as the maintenance and operational costs of the K9 Unit.
Our Unit currently consists of four K9 teams: Officer Bender/K9 “Ruck,” Officer Starsinic/K9 “Odin,” Officer Long/K9 “Zeke,” and Officer Gallagher/K9 “Lorcan.” We have one Patrol/Explosives team (K9 Ruck) and three dual-purpose Patrol /Narcotics teams.
Our K9s are partnered with one Officer for the dog's working life. The working life of a K9 typically ranges between 8-10 years. The K9s live with their partner and are very often inseparable. The K9s work every shift, accompanying their handler throughout the day and assisting in various tasks, from tracking to article searches to building searches to suspect apprehensions. Our K9 Unit also specializes in explosive detection, as well as narcotic detection (heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine).
All money raised will be exclusively used to provide for the needs of the K9s, including any veterinary costs, food, grooming supplies, cleaning supplies, medical kits, and any other care the dogs would need. The money would also be used to provide equipment, training aids, training equipment, and K9-specific vehicles.
The K9 Unit has costs specific to the work they do that differs and often exceed the typical Patrol Officer’s needs. Equipment (both handler and K9), vehicles, training costs, and training aids are only a few examples of such necessities specific to the K9 Unit.
We respectfully request donations to support our mission, so our K9 teams can effectively serve our community. The best way to donate is to submit checks payable to: “Manheim Township K9 Foundation”. However, we are currently working on implementing an electronic way to donate.
We thank you for your support and generosity.
