General Information
The Lititz Borough Police Department (LBPD) is a full-time full-service law enforcement agency. The LBPD has been Accredited through the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC) since February of 2008. The LBPD serves a resident population of approximately 9,500 people and is dispatched to approximately 8,000 calls for service annually. The Borough of Lititz is a dynamic mix of residential, commercial, industrial and recreational areas in Lancaster County, PA. The Borough of Lititz is a vibrant, thriving and attractive community which hosts many special events during the year. It is estimated that approximately 500,000+ people visit Lititz annually. The LBPD is a dynamic and progressive law enforcement agency, utilizing modern technology and operates under a community-oriented style of policing, with systems in place to effectively manage the complexities of 21st Century policing.
Civil Service Commission
The Lititz Borough Civil Service Commission consists of three Commissioners who shall be qualified electors of the Borough of Lititz. The commission shall make the rules and regulations providing for the examination of applicants for positions in the police force and for promotions.

General Qualifications
- 21 years of age.
- Completed, or currently enrolled, in the MPOETC basic police academy (Act 120).
- Valid driver’s license.
- United States citizen or naturalized citizen.
- In good physical condition.
- Good moral character.
- Graduated from an accredited high school or have an equivalent education acceptable to state standards.
- Residency requirement of 12 miles of the Borough of Lititz prior to completion of the probationary period (one year after appointment).
- Capable of performing the essential duties of a police officer.
- Free from the addicted or habitual use of intoxicating liquors or controlled substances.
- No convictions or acts defined as a “disqualifying offense” as defined by MPOETC.
- No previous dismissals from public service for delinquency or misconduct of office.
- No affiliations with any group whose policies or activities are subversive of the form of government set forth in the Constitution and laws of the United States and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Selection Procedure
- Proper submission and receipt of application.
- Written examination (veteran’s preference points applied consistent with the law)
- Oral examination conducted by a board of law enforcement professionals, business professionals and community members.
- Comprehensive background investigation.
- Polygraph and/or voice stress analysis examination.
- Oral examination conducted by the Lititz Borough Council Personnel Committed and Mayor.
- Final selection will be made from any one of the top three candidates.
- Physical examination and drug screen (after conditional offer).
- Psychological examination (after conditional offer).

Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission (MPOETC)
MPOETC establishes minimum curriculum and training standards for municipal police officers. The curriculum is used by certified municipal police academies throughout the Commonwealth to train prospective police cadets.
