As a proud symbol of our great nation, the American Flag holds a place of deep reverence in the hearts of Lancaster Township and its residents. In accordance with the U.S. Flag Code, which states:
“The U.S. flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
Lancaster Township is honored to announce a new initiative to uphold the dignity of our national emblem. In partnership with Nolan Bjerklie and Boy Scout Troop #4, a secure flag disposal box has been installed just outside the main entrance of the Lancaster Township Municipal Building, located at 1240 Maple Avenue.
This disposal box is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing a respectful and convenient way for residents to retire worn or damaged flags.
We invite all members of the community to make use of this service to ensure that every flag is retired with the honor it deserves.
