We have made it our priority at the Sheriff's Office to hold registered sex, drug, and violent offenders accountable, and we will be periodically checking these offenders to ensure compliance to the Kansas Offender Registration Act.
Lt. Detective Christopher Hall briefed the group of law enforcement officers this morning, and the participants separated into multiple teams and spread out throughout the county to check on 194 registered offenders.
As a result of these compliance checks, law enforcement determined that:
- 104 of the registered offenders were in compliance
- 22 were non-compliant
- 6 non-compliant offenders were arrested on-sight and transported to jail
- 12 non-compliant offenders were not immediately located and law enforcement will be forwarding charges to the Crawford County Attorney's Office
- 4 non-compliant offenders are being investigated further
- 68 registered offenders were not immediately contacted in person
- Law Enforcement will be conducting follow-ups in the very near future to ensure these offenders are in compliance
Of the 194 Registered Offenders that reside in Crawford County, 99 of them are sex offenders, 73 are drug offenders, and 22 are violent offenders.
These offenders are required to register with the Sheriff's Office four times a year in person at the registering law enforcement agency in any county where they reside, maintain employment, or attend school. After initial registration, they report in the month of their birthday and every third, sixth, and ninth month thereafter. They must be photographed, pay a registration fee of $20, and complete the registration form with all information.
