Pittsburg, Kansas – March 20, 2025
On Thursday, March 20, 2025 at approximately 10:58 P.M. an officer with the Pittsburg Police Department attempted to stop a white Chevrolet HHR driven by Cory D. Reynolds (48, of Pittsburg) near the area of Joplin and Quincy Street. Reynolds was suspected of having just committed an aggravated burglary and domestic battery. Reynolds refused to stop for police and fled.
Officers with the Pittsburg Police Department continued to pursue Reynolds east out of the city of Pittsburg, where a Crawford County Deputy joined in the pursuit.
Reynolds crossed into Cherokee County, Kansas near Opolis, Kansas before turning east into Missouri, where the deputy took over as the primary pursuing vehicle.
The deputy that was pursuing Reynolds reported that Reynolds was driving recklessly, in speeds of excess of 100MPH. The deputy also reported on several occasions that Reynolds would turn his headlights off and continue to flee.
The deputy was able to remain in pursuit with Reynolds when Reynolds entered back into Kansas in southern Cherokee County. Other deputies from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, as well as deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the Quapaw Nation Marshal’s Service were able to join in the pursuit after re-entering Kansas.
Near the intersection of Old US-166 and K-26 in southern Cherokee County, Sheriff Tomasi performed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) maneuver on Reynolds’ vehicle as it slowed to turn north. Reynolds still refused to stop and struck multiple law enforcement vehicles.
Reynolds then fled southbound from that intersection approximately a mile before his vehicle was disabled and brought to a stop.
Reynolds was taken into custody without further incident. Suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was located both on Reynolds’ person and inside of the vehicle. Reynolds was transported back to the Crawford County Jail in Girard, Kansas.
Charges for Reynolds are anticipated from multiple law enforcement agencies in multiple jurisdictions.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The Crawford County Sheriff's Office would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the law enforcement agencies that assisted in bringing this dangerous suspect into custody.
